RouteMaster

Expand router control with RouteMaster and RouteMaster VR

EXPAND

Expand your routing system with RouteMaster. More control panels, more network connections, more protocols, more flexibility.

CONVERT

Use RouteMaster to convert protocols, allowing incompatible systems to work together. Construct hybrid SDI/IP systems using multiple routers and tie-lines.

CONTROL

Control routing direct from the browser, using RouteMaster’s built-in web server and WebSocket-based API. Build custom control panels with Helm Designer. Use hardware panels and automation systems from other vendors.

RouteMaster is our powerful and flexible unified router control and protocol conversion application. Built on tried and tested software modules, RouteMaster can be used with a wide range of video and audio routers from all major manufacturers – see the full list below. The size of router controlled is scalable in size from 64 up to 2048sq.

RouteMaster consists of the router control application, a license to control a single SDI router and four control client licenses. These can be a mix of hardware panels, web panels, automation control – the full list is also below. This number can be expanded in packs of four via additional purchase from us. This provides you with the control flexibility you need, both downstream and upstream. Additional SDI router control licenses can also be purchased, for example for easy tie-line and stacked router control. Routers using different protocols can be effortlessly controlled via the application’s built in protocol conversion.

Rascular RouteMaster VR takes the control capabilities and protocol conversion of RouteMaster and adds a virtual router for NDI®. We provide two NDI® applications for routing : RouteMaster VR Lite – an entry level 20sq router for small scale operations; and Rascular RouteMaster VR ideal for larger routing requirements up to 2048sq. It comes with a single router control license and four upstream control client licenses.

RouteMaster also provides a hybrid router – SDI and NDI® enabled technology- control solution. A single RouteMaster application is able to control routers from both the SDI and NDI® domain by purchasing Rascular RouteMaster VR and then simply adding an additional SDI control license. This is ideal for those facilities that require seamless router control across both domains via a single control system, be that hardware, automation, ingest system or web based. It’s equally suitable for new router installations or increasing the capabilities – and lifetime – of existing systems. You can add third-party hardware panels to existing systems, add IP connectivity to older serial routers, or simply increase the number of control clients supported.

The integrated web server means operators can control routers from any web browser, using custom control panels built with Helm Designer. And because it’s built on HTML5 standards, there’s no need for browser plugins.

Multiple Routers and Tie-Lines

RouteMaster allows you to use multiple routers in several ways. The simplest is making “Stack Routers”, where each router appears as one or more levels of a larger router. This means you can combine a separate audio router and video router into a single entity, controlled from a single panel – even if they’re from different vendors. Stack routers can also map multiple physical levels to a single virtual level, for extra flexibility.

RouteMaster can also construct MultiRouters – where several physical routers are joined together with tielines to form a larger routing system, potentially spread over multiple sites or even continents. RouteMaster can display tieline status and automatically allocate tieline resources.

About NDI®

NDI® (Network Device Interface technology), is a royalty free standard enabling IP video workflows across standard Ethernet networks. NDI® is a master brand that incorporates two types of technologies used inside of the IP protocol, NDI® and NDI®HX.

RouteMaster can act as a virtual router for NDI® signals. This combination is incredibly powerful, particularly with RouteMaster’s ability to work with multiple routers. You can add a virtual NDI® “layer” to an existing router, allowing you to switch IP video for monitoring simultaneously with baseband SDI video. Or, using SDI to NDI® converters, construct a hybrid SDI and NDI® routing system using converters to act as tielines between the two domains.

Because the NDI® signals are not processed directly by RouteMaster, you can use it with large numbers of SDI sources and destinations.

Case Study: Distributed routing, Distributed control

Routing system grow and evolve over time: Our client started with a large serial-controlled SDI router at their main hub, then added several low cost compact routers at remote sites. For operators, this meant two control systems to deal with, and the increased risk of mistakes under pressure.

Using RouteMaster’s tie-line management and protocol conversions, operators are able to treat the entire set of routers as a single system, with easy routing direct from the hub to the remote sites. In addition to web-based control panels, operators can still use their existing hardware panels, which can now route signals directly from the hub.
